Personal Investigation

For the past 4 years I've been investigating the relationship between humans and their environment, and how this relationship then reflects outwards from their own relationship with themselves and each other.

This is a collection of pieces that world build imaginary scenes of worlds playing with scale, fluidity, and color.

Splashing Acid

This acrylic painting was inspired by the internal walls and form of the human stomach. I then exaggerated its texture and cavity to create a setting of a public pool. I wanted the acid to be the only illumination of this organic cavity. This was an imaginative investigation on stomach activity and what potentially happens during indigestion.

Hangnail

Why do humans pick at their nails and skin around such nails? So many of us tear our flesh apart and dedicate time, unconsciously or consciously, to drawing our own blood. This sort of anxious habit inspired a scene of hard working famers working to tear up our nails/skin.

Plaque Miners

This is representational of dentistry, fictionally comparing it’s labor to that of coal miners. I wanted to world build a worksite inside the mouth and play around with all the different damage and details a mouth mine could conceal.

Taking Flight

I took a survey of what superpowers 30 people would hypothetically choose, and was surprised to find that a majority picked flight. After further investigation, It became apparent that many people feel trapped or too grounded in their daily lives, the ability of flight symbolizes freedom and escapism from the gravity that tethers them.

Lung Support

This watercolor painting was done during the COVID-19 pandemic, the scare of being hospitalized or hospitalizing others plagued the public. I created this piece imagining how hard our body works together to keep our organs functional and supported.

Handed Forest

This illustration was inspired after journeys of self discovery and appreciation for those whose experience guided us. So many people, directly and indirectly, handed me different journey avenues to explore. This piece investigated both the illuminance, and ominous unknown that comes with this outsider advice/experience.
